SPF, which means Sender Policy Framework, is an email safety system, which is employed to validate whether an email message is sent by an authorized server. Using SPF protection for a domain name will prevent the faking of email addresses made with the domain. In layman's terms: activating this feature for a domain name makes a special record in the Domain Name System (DNS) which includes the IP addresses of the servers which are permitted to send e-mail messages from mail boxes using the domain. Once this record propagates globally, it will exist on all DNS servers that route the Internet traffic. When some email message is sent, the first DNS server it goes through checks if it comes from an approved server. In the event it does, it's sent to the destination address, however when it does not originate from a server indexed in the SPF record for the particular domain, it is discarded. Thus nobody will be able to mask an email address to make it appear as if you are sending spam messages. This approach is also identified as email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Website Hosting

If you host your domain names in a website hosting account with us and we handle the e-mail addresses for them, you will be able to activate SPF protection for all of them with a few clicks in your Hepsia Control Panel. The service can be found in a separate section where you can view which domains are currently protected. For those which aren't, you will be able to activate the SPF protection service and configure various things during this process - the hostnames of the mail servers that are allowed to send messages from your emails, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of the servers, and even to set a rule that messages can be sent only if your domain names have our MX records. The last solution is the most secure one, and you can use it if we handle the e-mail addresses for your domains and do not use another email supplier. The newly generated records will propagate within one day and nobody will be able to forge the FROM field in an e-mail by using your e-mail addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

When you have a semi-dedicated server account from us, you will be able to secure your email addresses by activating the SPF security service for every domain hosted in your account with just a few mouse-clicks. This can be done in the Emails section of the Hepsia Control Panel which is provided with the semi-dedicated accounts and even if you lack previous practical experience with these kinds of things, you will not have any kind of difficulties to activate the protection. The only things that you will have to do will be to choose a domain from a drop-down list and after that type the mail server hostname and IPv4 or IPv6 address. When the updated record propagates, messages from your email addresses will be sent around the world only if they are sent from that particular server. In case your e-mail addresses are handled by our company and not by some third-party supplier, you will also be able to benefit from an option for emails to be mailed only when the domain has our MX records and the latter would be the most secure option.
