Transferring an active domain name entails switching the company that provides the domain name registration service, so after the transfer, you’ll have to manage things like renewal payments or DNS updates through the new registrar. The transfer process is standard with most generic and country-code domain name extensions. Certain country-code extensions are more specific and involve different procedures, but in the general case transferring a domain name involves several necessary procedures and one of them is unlocking the domain. The lock is a security feature, which is being adopted by more and more domain name registry operators. It is a standard feature supported by all gTLDs. If a domain is locked, it will not be possible to start a transfer process, so no one can even try to take your domain name. The lock can be removed only through the account where the domain name is registered in the first place and all new domains that support this functionality are locked by default the moment they are registered.

Registrar Lock in Website Hosting

Locking and unlocking a domain name registered through us is exceptionally easy. This can be achieved through the Hepsia Control Panel, which is included with our Linux website hosting, and will take exactly two clicks of the mouse. All your domain names will be shown in alphabetical order in the Registered Domains section of the Control Panel and next to those whose extensions support the registrar lock option, you will notice a padlock-like icon. Click on it once and you’ll notice the current status of the domain name. Click once more and you will alter its status. The change will propagate instantly without the need for you or for us to do anything else for the status to be ‘refreshed’ on WHOIS lookup sites, so you can initiate the transfer process right away.

Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Managing your domains with us is extremely easy and the registrar lock feature is not an exception. If you have a semi-dedicated server account, you will be able to administer the domain names registered through us using the same Control Panel via which you will administer your web hosting account. For your convenience’s sake, the domain names will be displayed in alphabetical order and on the right you’ll see a padlock icon in case the given domain supports the registrar lock feature. If you click on the icon, you’ll find out if the given domain name is locked or not and you will be able to alter this status by clicking once more. The status will be updated instantly and you’ll be able to start the transfer without the need to wait for the update to appear on WHOIS lookup sites or for our company to do anything on our end.
